Falcons win close one in Reno

The Eureka Falcons held off a late rally by the Petaluma Longhorns to prevail 8-7 in the Reno Fourth of July Tournament in Reno, Nev., Saturday.

The Falcons led 8-2 after four innings before the Longhorns pushed across a total of five runs in the next two innings to cut the Falcons’ lead to one.

However, David Del Grande kept the Longhorns off the board in the final inning to preserve the win in support of starting pitcher Josh Genevro, who threw four-and-one-thirds innings and struck out four, while walking just one batter.

Leading the way for the Falcons at the plate was Andrew Ayers, who went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while teammates Ryan Stearns and Chris Gutierrez both hit home runs.

David Del Grande, Jordan Davis, Mike Wilson and Zach O’Hanen also had hits for the Falcons, who are now 19-6 and will play Santa Clara at 11:30 a.m.

El Dorado Post 219 7, Eureka Falcons 6;

Damonte Rebels 9, Eureka Falcons 8

The Eureka Falcons came up short against El Dorado Post 219 in Reno, Nev., on Friday.

In the opener, the Falcons banged out 13 hits, but still fell to the Damonte Rebels.

While in the nightcap, Zach O’Hanen and Ryan Stearns both had three hits for the Falcons.

Redding Rattlers 4, Eureka Falcons 1

The Eureka Falcons couldn’t muster enough offense to get past the Redding Rattlers and lost in Reno, Nev., on Thursday.

On the mound, Zach O’Hanen went three-and-two-thirds innings and struck out three, while at the plate, Andrew Ayers went 3-for-4 with a double, Tyler Plummer doubled and drove in a run and David Del Grande added two base hits.

No. Humboldt Knights 9, Shasta Bass 7;

Chico Reds 14, Northern Humboldt Knights 8

The Northern Humboldt Knights jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings before holding on against the Shasta Bass on Friday at the Seventh Annual Shasta Lake Bass Summer 2008 Fourth Of July Baseball Classic in Redding.

Leading the way for the Knights at the plate in the first game was Lonnie Risling – who went 3-for-4 – while teammates Kenton Johnson, Garret Peets and Matt Nelson each contributed two hits.

No. Humboldt Knights 11, Redding Colts 5

The Northern Humboldt Knights scored at least one run in each of the first five innings on their way to an easy victory over the Redding Colts in Redding on Thursday.

Leading the way for the Knights at the plate were Kenton Johnson and Riley Lonn, who both had two hits, with Lonn driving in three runs with a double in the first inning.

Knights head coach Brad Johnson said his team looked prepared.

“They showed up ready to go and they looked sharp,” he said.

In earlier action, the Knights defeated Pit River 4-3.
