Redwood Empire Little League pitcher Andrew Hancock pitched four-and-two-thirds innings and allowed just two hits in his team’s 10-2 victory over Del Norte in a 11’s/12’s District 26 All-Stars baseball tournament game at Redwood Fields in Eureka on Sunday.
Leading the way at the plate for the RELL squad were Daniel Raxa and Zack Stone, who both hit home runs and finished 2-for-3 and 3-for-3, respectively, to help their team advance to play McKinleyville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Brandon Japp went 2-for-3 for Del Norte, who will play Eureka at 5:30 p.m. today.
Southern Humboldt 13, Blue Lake/Fieldbrook 3
Southern Humboldt defeated Blue Lake/Fieldbrook to pick up its first win of the 11’s/12’s tournament.
Tory Langley went 4-for-4 with two triples and teammate Val Fernandez went 3-for-4 with a double for Southern Humboldt, who will play Klamath Trinity at 5:30 p.m. today.
Arcata 4, Eel River 0
Arcata defeated Eel River behind the stellar play of Tyler Keil.
Keil homered in the third inning and pitched a complete game to lead his squad to victory.
Arcata will play the winner of the RELL/McKinleyville game at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Little League 9’s/10’s Softball
Redwood Empire defeated Eel River 4-0 and McKinleyville defeated Del Norte 15-2 at the Washington Fields in Eureka on Sunday.
RE’s Lauren Stone pitched a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts to outduel Eel River’s Morgan Harwood, who had 14 strikeouts of her own in a complete-game loss.
RE will play the winner of McKinleyville/Eel River for the title at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Little League 11’s/12’s Softball
Del Norte got past Klamath Trinity 6-3, Southern Humboldt defeated McKinleyville 10-7 and Redwood Empire beat Eel River 13-9 at the Washington Fields in Eureka.
RE’s Melanie Silemeo and Shyann Ubedei both hit home runs, while teammates Hailie Stevens and Kate Brenneman hit triples to help lead their team to victory.
The winner of the Del Norte/Southern Humboldt game at 5:30 p.m. today will play Eel River at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with the winner of that game set to play Redwood Empire for the championship at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Babe Ruth 13’s
In Babe Ruth 13’s action at Newburg Ballpark in Fortuna, Eureka defeated Eel River Valley 15-2 and Siskiyou defeated McKinleyville 14-1 before being eliminated by Eel River Valley 6-0.
The winning pitchers on the day were Ryder Stapp for Eureka, Colby Rimmer for Siskiyou and Cole Collings for Eel River Valley.
Eureka will play Eel River Valley for the championship at 3 p.m. today.
Babe Ruth 14’s
In Babe Ruth 14’s action, McKinleyville defeated Eel River Valley 14-2 and Arcata defeated Siskiyous and Eel River Valley by scores of 9-6 and 12-3, respectively, at Hiller Ball Park in McKinleyville.
Leading the way for McKinleyville were Zach Rowe and Wohali Bishop – as both players went 3-for-3 and drove in a total of four runs – while pitcher Michael Saveliss threw three innings to pick up the victory on the mound.
Kaylee Gorge pitched six innings to pick up the win against Siskiyous while teammate Sam Kauffman was the victor against Eel River Valley on the strength of six innings of work and seven strikeouts.
McKinleyville will play Arcata for the title at 1 p.m. today.
Babe Ruth 15’s
In Babe Ruth 15’s action, Siskiyou defeated Eureka 12-2 and Del Norte defeated Eureka 11-8 at the Redwood Acres Ballpark in Eureka.
Layton O’Reily was the winner on the mound for Siskiyous as he threw seven innings, struck out four and walked six, while Wade Berryhill triumphed for Del Norte by pitching six innings with three strikeouts and three walks.
Siskiyou will play Del Norte for the title at 3 p.m. today.
