Glynne Rakestraw of McKinleyville died July 5, 2008, at the age of 81. She was born on September 5, 1926, to Paul and Ellen Thornburgh of San Diego, Calif. She lived in the San Fernando Valley until 1944, at which time she and her family moved to Fortuna and bought a ranch on Dick Smith Lane off Loop Road. She married Willis Rakestraw in 1948 in the Fortuna Seventh-Day Adventist Church. After high school she worked as a nurse’s aide at the hospital in Scotia and then, after receiving her LVN license from College of the Redwoods, as a surgical scrub nurse at Redwood Memorial Hospital until 1980, often riding to work on her Moped.

Glynne enjoyed camping with her family, exploring back roads, and getting together with the many friends she made throughout her lifetime. She loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, with all her heart and rests peacefully in the hope of His second coming.

Glynne is survived by her three children and their spouses, Raemel and Fred Oliveira of Fortuna, Claudia and Monty Carter of McKinleyville, and Matt and Jan Rakestraw of Grass Valley; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, Robert Thornburgh of Lafayette, Ga.; sister Jean and husband Art Andes of Cheshire, Ore.; numerous nieces and nephews; and her adopted children and grandchildren, Marvin, Sarah, Curtis, and Beth Forrester. Her husband of 51 years, Willis Rakestraw, and her grandson, Corey Carter, preceded her in death.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service Friday, July 11, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna. Mr. Phil Wentworth officiating.

Arrangements and guidance entrusted to Goble’s Fortuna Mortuary, Inc.
