6/9/28 – 6/30/08
A loving Mother, Sister and friend to all, passed peacefully into Eternal Rest on June 30, in her home. Born June 9, 1928, in Fairfield, Idaho, the third of 10 brothers and sisters. Lucille began working at an early age – a testament to her life long belief in a solid work ethic. Her vocational experiences range from early work in the fields, card dealing, teaching secretarial skills, and a holding variety of book keeping positions in many businesses, including Real Estate and Electrical manufacturing.
Married to the Love of Her Life on September 4, 1949, to Russel Palmer Brown, they traveled with the U.S. Air Force throughout the United States and to Japan…. Lovingly adopting two daughters, Susan L Brown-Mechling of Washington State and Judy R Brown-Cuchna of Japan.
After raising the girls in Martinez, Calif., Lucille chose to relocate to Humboldt County where she has lived since 1975, enjoying the outdoors by surf fishing, hunting and in later years – BINGO.
Lucille led a full and very generous life. Many people called her friend, and many young people called her “Mom”, including our dear friend Mayumi of Japan. Lucille laughingly referred to herself as “The Old Bat”.
Lucille had a zest for life, not seen in many people. She was confident, generous, hardworking, strong and funny – a sense of humor kept her smiling, including a good joke!
Lucille will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but especially her daughters, Susan Mechling and husband Charley of Oregon, Judy Cuchna and husband Gary of Elk Grove; grandchildren Jennifer and Josh Brown, Katie Cuchna and Cole Cuchna; great-grand children: Leighila, Catherine, Emelia and Kirsten along with her brothers and sisters, family and friends whose lives were enriched by her love and generosity.
Lucille will be placed beside the Love of her Life Russ, for Eternal Rest together on Tuesday, July 8, at 3 p.m. in Memory Gardens in Concord, Calif.
Per her wishes, no funeral services will be held, but a Celebration of Life is planned for early August in Arcata.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
Lutheran Church of Arcata, 151 E16th Street, Arcata, CA 95521.
