Measure G will improve Arcata’s police and roads

Dear Editor, As a member of Arcata’s last two budget task forces as well as the Transaction and User Tax Task Force; I encourage Arcata residents to support Measure G in the upcoming Nov. 4 election. Through a temporary additional three-quarter cent sales tax increase, Measure G would raise an estimated $1.5 million annually that would go directly to the city.

Enlisting at a young age isn’t always bad

Dear Editor, In 1944, I was on a hospital ship from Saipan in the Marianas Islands to Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. One man from my battalion had lost a leg below the knee and was pretty despondent. Knowing him and being in the bed next to him, I was trying to reassure him, but not doing too well at it.

(By the 18th Military Police Brigade, Public Affairs Office, Oct. 8) BAGHDAD — Security improvements in Baghdad continue to progress as Iraqi security forces conducted a transfer of authority in more than 10 muhallas (neighborhoods) yesterday in the Karkh Directorate of Baghdad. In the Kindi and Qadasiyah muhallas of Baghdad, Iraqi army soldiers handed over security responsibilities to the Iraqi police.
