New wheels for perfect attenders

Local Key Club members compete to outserve rivals

Each year, Key Club International recognizes individual Key Clubs for their Single Best Service Project. Clubs compete with other clubs of similar size within four membership categories. Entries are based on the accumulated total points in the categories of service need, project plan, project implementation, final result, public awareness, and member participation.

FFA Humboldt/Del Norte Section Project Competition Awards Banquet

The 2008 FFA Humboldt/Del Norte Section Project Competition Awards Banquet sponsored by American AgCredit was held on May 13, 2008, at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. Jeff Mason, junior and member of Arcata FFA, was announced as the Division II winner and presented with a plaque and $300 cash award. Sophomore Hannah Lovfald of Eureka FFA was chosen as the Division I winner and was the recipient of a plaque.

Bicyclists promote suicide awareness, prevention

Rodeo turns special needs participants into exceptional cowboys, cowgirls for a day

They will be given the hats to wear, the horses to ride and the steers to rope — all they need to bring is a hearty “yee-haw.” Thanks to the dozens of volunteers who make it possible each year, more than 200 special needs children and adults will be transformed into true country folk at the annual Exceptional Rodeo on Sunday.

Humboldt County students recognized at state science fair

Humboldt County’s team of 26 middle school scientists earned recognition from the judges at the 57th annual California State Science Fair held in Los Angeles May 19-20. Competing with 953 participants from 359 schools in the state, the students brought home eight awards.
